We hear from Georgeann Brown

"Students ask if I have always liked to cook (no-but I do like to eat). The 2nd question asked is who influenced me the most. My immediate answer is Jacques Pépin and Julia Child. I remember watching PBS when both Pépin and Child had their respective food shows. We taped them all (yes, I am that old) and still watch them today. No current show takes their place. I, along with 400 of my closest friends, was fortunate to meet Julia Child at a food show at Navy Pier in Chicago. In 1982, while still living in Chicago, I attended a 4-day cooking class taught by Jacques Pépin. As I recall a famous line from a movie, he had me at bon jour. I do hope that you get a chance to see the movie Julie and Julia, it is so much fun and besides, Meryl Streep is my most favorite actor and sounds more like Julia Child than Julia Child.

Enjoy the season with all that is available right now and when winter comes, we will drag out the heavy pots for stews and soups. The time will then be right for Julias slow-cooking flavorful dishes; Coq Au Vin and Boeuf Bourguignon and Jacques classic puff pastry.

On the evening of September 16, I will be at Jacobs Garden in Ottawa Lake MI, teaching a class on "Preserving Fresh Herbs for the Winter."  Contact Jacobs Garden for more information. (734 568 6868)
